Manchester City kicked off their 2025/26 Premier League campaign with a 4-0 win in their opening match against Wolverhampton Wanderers on August 16, at Molineux Stadium.
After some departures and significant additions in the summer to strengthen their squad, a few more of their existing star have also been linked with a move away from the Etihad. One such name is Manuel Akanji.
Akanji arrived at Man City from Borussia Dortmund in 2022 and has two more years left in his contract at the English club.
The 30-year-old was named in Man City’s squad for their first league game of the season, but remained on the bench as an unused substitute.
Akanji has emerged as a top transfer prospect for Super Lig club Galatasaray, and Man City are open to his potential departure, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
Why are Galatasaray interested in signing Manchester City’s Manuel Akanji?
A report from ESPN suggested that Galatasaray are in search of a defender and would like to make the signing soon, ideally much before the transfer deadline, in order to register their full squad for the Champions League.

Galatasaray head coach Okan Buruk is reportedly looking for a versatile defender who can play as both a right-back and centre-back, and Akanji has been seen in both roles under Pep Guardiola at Man City.
Romano‘s report also mentioned that the decision of this potential move to Galatasaray lies with Akanji.
It remains to be seen if Akanji chooses to join the Turkish club this season after spending three years at Man City, during which he has featured in 136 games and recorded five goals and three assists.
