3 Philadelphia Eagles players likely to be cut heading into 2025 NFL season

The Philadelphia Eagles undoubtedly have one of the strongest rosters in the NFL heading into the 2025 NFL season, but with that comes some tough decisions from general manager Howie Roseman and head coach Nick Sirianni when it comes time to cut down their squad.

While team leaders like Jalen Hurts, A.J. Brown, Saquon Barkley and others are firmly entrenched on the roster, Roseman and Co. need to dwindle down the team to the maximum 53-man squad within the coming weeks.

That said, the Birds could end up having to let go of some extremely talented players in the process, and some notable names that have been around the league for a bit.

These three players could end up being on the chopping block as Philly prepares to face off against their rival Dallas Cowboys in Week 1.

Ainias Smith (Wide receiver)

The Eagles have one of the deepest receiving groups in the NFL, which starts with Brown, Devonta Smith and Jahan Dotson. However, Darius Cooper has broken out this camp and the team also brought in John Metchie III to potentially play alongside his former Alabama teammates Hurts and Smith.

For Ainias, he came into the league in the same draft class as Johnny Wilson, who recently suffered a brutal leg injury, but it appears as though if he misses significant time that Cooper will take on that fifth wideout role.

Dorian Thompson-Robinson (Quarterback)

When a team has a quarterback like Hurts it’s hardly a worry at the position, but the Birds also have one of the most discussed backups in the league as well. Tanner McKee’s emergence makes it really difficult for any QB, especially Thompson-Robinson to get any major action in training camp.

Unfortunately for the former Cleveland Browns signal caller, DTR has even been outplayed by ex-Syracuse quarterback Kyle McCord, which doesn’t bode well for his chances to make the team.

Antwuan Powell-Ryland (Linebacker)

Linebacker has been a position of need in the past for the Eagles, which opened up a window of opportunity for Powell-Ryland when he came out of Virginia Tech.

However, the combination of the team’s lack of draft capital invested in him and the fact that Roseman and the organization have made major strides to improve their linebacker group likely means that Powell-Ryland won’t be suiting up for the team in 2025.
