Mariners’ Victor Robles gets official suspension for throwing bat at pitcher

Victor Robles had to know a punishment was coming.

Now, Major League Baseball has made it official that Robles is being suspended.

The Seattle Mariners outfielder has been given a 10-game suspension by MLB, along with an undisclosed fine, according to MLB.com’s Daniel Kramer.

The 10-game suspension has to be served at the major league level.

On Sunday night, Robles took exception to a hit by pitch while on rehab assignment at Triple-A Tacoma. He ended up chucking his bat at the pitcher in the aftermath.

That’s clearly not a behavior that is encouraged, and so Robles will have to miss time.

Robles plans to appeal the suspension, according to Kramer.

The Mariners aren’t in dire need of Robles’ return at this point, given the way they bulked their lineup up at the trade deadline.

He still is a good depth piece, though, capable of playing great outfield defense and providing speed on the basepaths.

A 10-game suspension isn’t impossible to overcome, at least. If Robles serves it soon, he can be on Seattle’s roster for the majority of September.

The Mariners are still trying to outdo the Astros to win the AL West Division. Some betting websites have the Mariners installed as the most likely American League team to win the World Series.

Their hopes are high, and although Robles will have to miss some time, hopefully he’ll eventually return to MLB with a cooler head and ready to help Seattle chase the big trophy.
