Knicks linked to future Hall of Famer in free agency

The New York Knicks are set for another season of contention, but it might be time for them to make one last big move in free agency.

Over the past few years, the Knicks have been no strangers to making big and controversial moves. From “overpaying” for Jalen Brunson in 2022 to their blockbuster deal for Karl-Anthony Towns at the start of training camp last year, the Knicks are always willing to shake things up to get closer to a title.

While there might not be many big moves left for the Knicks or any other team to make this offseason, the biggest name on the market is still unsigned. Considering the Knicks’ situation, they might be the perfect fit for the future Hall of Famer.

Why Russell Westbrook makes sense for the Knicks

After forging a Hall of Fame career in just his 11 seasons in Oklahoma City alone, Westbrook has spent the latter stages of his career bouncing around in search of an NBA title. After a successful year with the Nuggets, Westbrook is still searching for his next team, and Bleacher Report’s Andy Bailey proposed the Knicks as a potential fit.

Although the all-time leader in triple-doubles won’t be in the mix for a starting role in most places, the Knicks could offer him a perfect sixth man role. With Westbrook’s intensity and all-around skillset, he would be a perfect spark plug for Mike Brown when Brunson heads to the bench.

Also known for his ability to elevate elite scorers, Westbrook could also make life easier for Brunson and Towns when they share the floor. Although Westbrook’s inconsistent shooting and turnover issues could sway teams away from signing him, almost every team has fallen in love with the former All-Star when the season gets going.
