The Chicago Cubs have needed a lift. The Cubs started the first game of the Tuesday doubleheader against the Milwaukee Brewers nine games back in the National League Central. The Cubs were four up on Cincinnati, who is looking to grab one of the final three wildcard spots.
But, Chicago started the day 7-9 in the month of August. The losing ways go back to after the All-Star Game, where they are just 13-15 since then.
That’s where Owen Caissie comes into play. In the lineup, and batting sixth for Chicago, taking the place of the struggling Kyle Tucker, he hit his first career long ball on Tuesday to extend the Chicago lead.

The damage for Caissie started in the bottom of the first inning, when he drove in Pete Crow-Armstrong and Seiya Suzuki. The Cubs would eventually go ahead 5-0, before Milwaukee stormed back to within a run. That’s when Caissie gave Chicago a little insurance with a deep home run to center field.
It was good to see the rookie in the lineup for just the fourth time this season following his call-up on August 14. He had just one hit coming into this game, but finished with two more on Tuesday. The struggling Tucker has just eight hits the entire month of August, and has yet to hit a home run this month.

Chicago went on to win the game 6-4 over the Brewers. Matthew Boyd picked up the win following an outing that went 5.1 innings, allowing six hits and four runs. The bullpen did not allow a run over the final 11 outs of the game.
Chad Patrick took the loss for the Brewers. Patrick finished five innings, allowing those five runs on five hits.
The nightcap will feature Brandon Woodruff for Milwaukee and Jameson Taillon for the Cubs.
