Leeds United close to finalising transfer of AC Milan forward

Leeds United continue to make movement in the transfer market as the club are reportedly close to signing a new forward.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the promoted Premier League side have struck a deal with AC Milan to bring Noah Okafor to Elland Road.

The Swiss forward looks set to join for around £17m and will become Leeds’ ninth first-team signing this summer.

Okafor will put pen to paper on a four-year deal, with the option of an extra year, once he finalises his move in the next day or so.

The 25-year-old spent the second half of last season at Napoli, but he failed to make an impact for Antonio Conte’s side as he was only involved in four matches for the eventual Serie A winners.

Okafor returned to his parent club in the summer and recently came off the bench in Milan’s Coppa Italia win over Bari on Sunday (August 17).

Leeds supporters will be hoping Okafor can display the quality he showed in his last two seasons with RB Salzburg, where he got into double digits in goals in both campaigns and earned a move to Milan in 2023.

Leeds’ need for recruitment in attacking areas

Daniel Farke has been keen to strengthen his attack after last season’s first-place finish in the Championship, as he acknowledges that a higher level of quality is required upfront to make the successful jump up to the Premier League.

During pre-season, the Leeds boss was concerned that his side would not be ready for the team’s opening league game against Everton.

However, that proved to not be a huge concern as new forward signing Lukas Nmecha converted from the spot late on against The Toffees on Monday night (August 18), to give The Whites a crucial 1-0 win at Elland Road.

While Leeds will be feeling confident after beating David Moyes’ side in their Premier League opener, more options in attack are necessary for Farke if he is to consistently pick up points this season and avoid relegation back to the Championship.

The recent signing of Dominic Calvert-Lewin on a free transfer should help The Whites, as the English striker has Premier League experience from his time at Everton.
