The St. Louis Cardinals are currently struggling to get things going after a 7-5 start to August. They have lost back-to-back series against the Colorado Rockies and New York Yankees and are currently riding a five-game losing streak.
St. Louis’ postseason chances are starting to slip away as they are now 18 games behind the red-hot Milwaukee Brewers in the NL Central and are 5.5 games behind the New York Mets for the final NL Wild Card spot.
They will turn towards a new week and look to snap their losing streak in a three-game series against the Miami Marlins.
Willson Contreras returns to the Cardinals’ lineup on Monday
Injuries have been a problem over the last few days for the Cardinals. Utility player Brendan Donovan has been held out since Aug. 13 with a toe injury, outfielder Victor Scott was placed on the 10-day injured list with an ankle sprain, and first baseman Willson Contreras has been out since Aug. 12 with a bruised foot.
Fortunately, St. Louis announced that Contreras will return from his four-game absence in their series opener against the Marlins on Monday. He’ll be batting cleanup for the Cardinals and will play in his usual first base position.

This is huge news as Contreras has been one of their most consistent bats in 2025. Through 114 games, he has a .255 batting average, .344 on-base percentage, .443 slugging percentage, and a .787 OPS while leading the team in both home runs (16) and RBI (65).
