The Houston Astros will have to continue to solidify their top spot in the AL West in a three-game series against the Detroit Tigers starting on Monday.
It’s a highly anticipated matchup as Houston is in first place in their division, and the Tigers have the best record in the American League. The matchup is a teaser for a matchup that can take place during the postseason.
Spencer Arrighetti (1-3, 6.38 ERA) will go against Jack Flaherty (6-12, 4.76 ERA) in the first of three games.
Astros select Tayler Scott, DFA Jordan Weems on Monday
Before the series takes place on Monday, the Houston Astros made multiple roster moves within their pitching staff. Houston selected right-handed pitcher Tayler Scott to bring up to the major league roster and designated right-handed pitcher Jordan Weems for assignment.

Scott, 33, was designated for assignment by the Astros earlier this season and was picked up by the Arizona Diamondbacks. After appearing in six games for the D-Backs, he was DFA’d, which led to Houston re-signing the pitcher for his second stint with the team this season. Through 23 major league appearances this season, Scott’s totaled a 1-2 record, 6.67 ERA, 1.75 WHIP, and 23 strikeouts in 25.2 innings.
Weems, 32, has had a similar 2025 season to Scott. He was released by the Atlanta Braves before being picked up and DFA’d by the Astros. He resigned with Houston and will report back to Triple-A or test out free agency once again following the news on Monday.
