Colts sign former All-Pro who leads NFL in key stat since 2017

The Indianapolis Colts signed a player with quite the pedigree on Monday.

Xavien Howard is heading to Indy, per multiple reports.

Howard, a cornerback, is a former All-Pro defensive back who has played in four Pro Bowls.

He leads the NFL in interceptions since 2017, which was his second season in the league.

Howard has seasons with 10, 7, 5 and 4 interceptions, a true ballhawk.

The 6-foot-1 cornerback has spent his entire NFL career up to this point with the Miami Dolphins. They drafted him No. 38 overall out of Baylor in 2016.

Howard appeared in exactly 100 games for the Dolphins, grabbing those 29 interceptions to go with 95 passes defensed and 331 tackles.

The 2024 season was Howard’s first without suiting up, as the Dolphins released him in February and he didn’t sign with anyone else.

Now, at 32 years old, Howard tries to make a comeback.

The Colts have a star nickelback in Kenny Moore. On the outside, their likely starters are Charvarius Ward and Jaylon Jones.

At a minimum, Howard can provide some depth and veteran leadership, and if things break his way, he could still get back out onto the field and intercept some more passes.

It’s certainly a low-risk signing for the Colts, and it has the potential to bring with it a serious reward.
