Wilyer Abreu got almost all of it.
But the Boston Red Sox right fielder didn’t quite hit his fly ball to deep right at Fenway Park far enough.
Dane Myers was there. He snagged the ball in his glove. It was a great running catch.
Except, Myers ran into the fence.
And when that happened, the ball popped out.
And it landed beyond the fence.

From an out not yet completed, to a two-run home run for Abreu.
He robbed it!

The blast represented Abreu’s 22nd homer of the season. He definitely hasn’t had one like that for his first 21.
It’s not quite the Jose Canseco off-the-noggin special, but it’s still quite unique.
Myers’ frustration was obvious. All the Marlins’ pitcher could do was laugh.

It’s the kind of good fortune that Boston might need to keep its second-half surge going as it chases a playoff spot and even then attempts to make some noise in October.
They probably can’t count on any more assisted home runs the rest of the way.
But this one was worth two runs, and it gave them a 2-1 lead against a pesky Marlins team. They’ll certainly take it.
