The Boston Celtics are bringing in some wing depth to help fortify their roster ahead of next season, signing Ron Harper Jr. to an Exhibit 10 deal, per Michael Scotto of HoopsHype.
Harper Jr. is the son of former NBA player Ron Harper, and the brother of the second-overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, Dylan Harper. Harper Jr. has only appeared in 11 NBA games in his career since 2022, and has spent the majority of his time in the G-League. This past season during time split between the Motor City Cruise, and the Maine Celtics, Harper Jr. averaged 18.2 points and 4.5 rebounds per game. He also shot 44 percent from the floor and 39 percent from three-point range. He played collegiately at Rutgers University, the same school as his brother, Dylan.
Given the current state of the Celtics’ roster, Harper Jr. will have a chance to play for a roster spot, and potentially even a rotation spot if he impresses enough. Jayson Tatum will miss the majority of the season with a torn achilles, and Kristaps Porzingis, Jrue Holiday, Luke Kornet, and eventually Al Horford are all on different teams, leaving the Celtics very thin in key areas.
Next year could be a strange one for the Celtics. Without many of their key figures from their 2024 championship winning squad, and a thinned-out roster, this upcoming season could be more of a transition year as the team focuses on being fully healthy for another run in 2026.
