Celtics legend Larry Bird’s grandson looks like a basketball star — except he’s not who he appears to be

There’s a talented basketball player going viral on social media this week.

The young hooper is being lauded as Larry Bird’s grandson, as being two generations on from the Boston Celtics legend who is one of the greatest players in NBA history.

One problem: It’s not Larry Bird’s grandson.

Here’s the clip, for context:

Yes, he’s wearing No. 33, and he’s got some of the blonde hairdo.

Social media investigators have determined that that is actually Liam Campbell.

The talented Campbell is a guard for Saint Mary’s, the prominent mid-major Gaels. He just redshirted his freshman season.

Campbell is 6-foot-4 and from Meridian, Idaho. He was the No. 2 player in Idaho’s Class of 2024. He also had offers from Boise State, Colorado State, Drake, Montana, Montana State, Portland, San Diego, Stanford, UC Santa Barbara, USD, Washington State and Utah.

It’ll be interesting to see what Campbell can do after a year as a redshirt. He likely had a chance to get in the weight room and get his body ready for college basketball.

It’s clear from those highlights that he definitely has skills, regardless of his lineage.

It’d be a fun story if he could develop into an NCAA Tournament hero who had once gone viral for a very different basketball reason.

There’s no Bird in his genes, but Campbell does appear to be a baller.
