West contender attempting to poach Knicks 39.7% 3-point shooter

Current New York Knicks free agent Landry Shamet is still without a team, with many expecting he could return to the Knicks throughout the rest of the offseason.

It remains uncertain what the holdup is, but the Knicks might be looking at a few other options. Ultimately, however, Shamet played well in the season at times and could be much worse for a 12th or 13th man on a roster.

The Knicks need to have some veterans around, and Shamet provides them with just that as an above-average 3-point shooter, too.

However, with him being without a team at this stage of the offseason, there could certainly be something in the works behind the scenes.

According to a recent report from Jon Krawczynski of The Athletic, a new team has contacted him: the Minnesota Timberwolves.

“The Wolves have looked into several candidates for the spot, including Malcolm Brogdon, Cam Payne and Landry Shamet, league sources told The Athletic. However, all indications are that Bones Hyland is the front-runner to get that final spot, league sources said. Hyland signed a two-way contract with the Wolves in February, played briefly in Iowa and spent the rest of his time with the Timberwolves,” he wrote.

If the Knicks want Shamet back, they must do what they have to do now so he doesn’t go and sign with another team.

While he likely won’t make or break a season, he could play a decent role in New York if Mike Brown allows him to play early on.
