Rockets trade pitch moves Amen Thompson and more for two-time MVP

On paper, the Houston Rockets should have one of the brightest futures in the NBA if everything goes as planned. While they decided to move on from Jalen Green, who is a decent player in his own right, they got Kevin Durant in return.

However, Durant is likely to be in some of the final seasons of his career, even if he plays for another four or five. Ultimately, the Rockets took a win-now approach in that deal, but still hold most of their young talent.

Sports Illustrated’s Dan Angell wants them to get rid of even more of their young talent in a deal for Giannis Antetokounmpo. While the Rockets would love to add another player like Durant, a superstar like Antetokounmpo would be that.

However, most Rockets fans might not agree with his trade proposal, despite the two-time MVP being one of the best players, if not the best in the world.

Rockets receive: Giannis Antetokounmpo

“Houston needs more consistent offense, and Antetokounmpo would offer that. With Durant now 37 and most of the Rockets’ starters on the other side of 30, Houston wants to maximize this window. The cost is steep for Antetokounmpo, but that’s what star players cost. Putting him and Durant together with Fred VanVleet could make the Rockets’ offense one of the best in the league,” he wrote.

Given the Rockets’ young talent, it’s tough to justify giving up on that to form a team with two players over 30 years old. Of course, if the Rockets could guarantee that they’d win a championship, they’d make this trade, but there’s no such thing in the NBA.

Antetokounmpo and Durant are incredible, but the Rockets have so much young talent that it might be better to wait a bit and see what they can do with this team and Durant.
