Former Cardinals MVP, Yankees’ Paul Goldschmidt suffers injury setback

Paul Goldschmidt, one of the greatest players in St. Louis Cardinals history, is now the New York Yankees’ first baseman. He left the National League club to join the American League in hopes of helping the Yankees win their first World Series since 2009.

However, the Yankees’ season is slowly declining after losing the top spot in the AL East to the Toronto Blue Jays in July. New York also received some unfortunate news on Goldschmidt after losing to the Minnesota Twins on Wednesday.

It’s been discovered that the All-Star first baseman has knee discomfort. Yankees manager Aaron Boone had some unfortunate news for Goldschmidt while New York continues to maintain the final AL Wild Card spot.

“Paul Goldschmidt has a knee injury and may need to go on the IL, Aaron Boone said. They are discussing,” is what Yankees insider Bryan Hoch reported on Wednesday night.

Hoch also revealed that the injury is labeled as a “low-grade knee sprain with inflammation.”  The Yankees’ first baseman hopes that the injury won’t be anything worse than a short-term absence and that there’s a chance he could miss an injured-list stint.

Further information will be discovered later, but it can be another unfortunate blow to a struggling Yankees team.

Outside of AL MVP candidate Aaron Judge, Paul Goldschmidt has been one of the more consistent bats this season for New York. In 112 games this season, he has a .276 batting average, .331 on-base percentage, .422 slugging percentage, and a .753 OPS while hitting 10 home runs and 40 RBI.
