McDavid Oilers extension reportedly approaching

The Connor McDavid extension has been a topic of immense discourse this offseason as the Oilers star forward has been eligible for a new deal since July 1st. The longer that time goes on without a new contract, pundits continue to speculate over McDavid’s future and whether that involves Edmonton as he goes into the final year of his current deal.

According to the 2 Mutts Podcast, the answer to that question is yes but potentially not as long as people think. It is expected that after the Team Canada winter Olympic orientation camp concludes that a McDavid extension in Edmonton will be announced before training camp begins.

That would mean a date around late August to early September to look out for news on McDavid’s future. Reports also suggest this will be a shorter term deal in the 2-4 year timetable, giving Connor time to asses his long term future with the Oilers as he looks to make hay while the sun shines. The Oilers have come close to winning Lord Stanley, having made the Cup finals in back to back seasons only to lose to the champion Panthers twice.

The 28 year old McDavid is entering what will be his 11th season in Oil country this year. Last year, he recorded 26 goals and 74 assists for 100 points in 67 games. In the playoffs, he amassed 7 goals and 26 assists for 33 points in 22 games.

Over the course of his 712 game NHL career, the Canadian sensation has totaled 361 goals and 721 assists for 1,082 points in the regular season. In his postseason career, he has registered 44 goals and 106 assists for 150 points in 96 games.
