It has been an eventful summer in north London, and Tottenham Hotspur’s hunt for another attacking player has now taken a different direction.
Just last week, Son Heung-min completed a surprise move to Major League Soccer side LAFC, while James Maddison’s knee injury is expected to rule him out for most of the season, leaving head coach Thomas Frank pushing hard for fresh attacking options.
Tottenham have already invested £55m [$74m] to bring in Mohammed Kudus from West Ham and came close to spending another £60m [$80m] on Nottingham Forest playmaker Morgan Gibbs-White, only for that pursuit to end in disappointment.
With those efforts unsuccessful, Spurs have now shifted towards Brazilian winger Savinho.
Earlier reports suggested Tottenham had opened talks with Manchester City over a potential deal worth around £43m [ $57m]
The 21-year-old, who joined City from French club Troyes for £30.8m [$41m] just last year, made 48 appearances under Pep Guardiola last season and found the net three times.

However, the summer arrival of French winger Rayan Cherki from Lyon in a £30m [$40m] transfer has cast some doubt over Savinho’s chances of regular playing time at the Etihad.
Manchester City reject Tottenham approach
According to The Athletic’s Jack Pitt-Brooke, “Spurs have approached Manchester City about signing Brazilian winger Savinho, discussing a package of roughly €50m for his signing.
City, however, said that they do not want to sell Savinho and regard the matter as closed.”
While Savinho was reportedly interested in more minutes, City’s stance leaves Tottenham exploring other options before the window closes.
