The Boston Bruins continue to circulate in trade rumors with the latest fish in the sea being Casey Mittelstadt. According to James Murphy, the Bruins may decide to trade the 26 year old forward.
The Bruins recently acquired Casey Mittelstadt from the Colorado Avalanche during the 2025 trade deadline in a trade that sent Charlie Coyle the other way. In a season split with the Avs and B’s, Mittelstadt recorded 15 goals and 25 assists for 40 points in 81 games last season.
Casey Mittelstadt carries a $5.75 million cap hit that lasts until the 26-27 season. If the Bruins decide Mittelstadt does not fit in Boston’s future plans, they may want to move him in order to create more cap space that would enable them to bring in either more immediate reinforcements or futures assets. The trade return depends on what route the Bruins decide to take this team: retool or rebuild.
Mittelstadt is an intriguing top 6 option for a contending team, preferably in a second line role. The journeyman has bounced around thus far in his NHL tenure looking for the right fit. We’ll see which destination the former 8th overall selection in the 2017 draft lands and whether that future involves Boston.
Over the course of his 8 year career, the Buffalo Sabres draft pick has totaled 81 goals and 155 assists for 236 points in 438 regular season games. In 11 career playoff games, he has tallied 3 goals and 6 assists for 9 points.
