Bulls’ Matas Buzelis named ‘most important player’ in new report

There’s a lot of uncertainty in the Chicago Bulls roster entering the 2025-26 season. With restricted free agent Josh Giddey still waiting to get a contract done and Coby White heading into his contract year, what’s the Bulls’ plan?

If Nikola Vucevic and the buyout rumors surrounding him are added to the mix, the Bulls’ top three scorers from last season could be on the verge of leaving Chicago soon.

With this being said, building for the future seems to be the case for general manager Marc Eversley and the Bulls.

They have resigned guard Tre Jones, traded away Lonzo Ball for Isaac Okoro, and drafted Noa Essengue with the No. 12 pick in the 2025 NBA Draft this offseason, so Chicago is in line to build around the young assets that are already on the roster.

One topic of discussion will be in Chicago-born forward, Matas Buzelis. Joe Cowley of the Chicago Sun-Times believes he will be the name of the future for the Bulls.

“Buzelis is the Bulls as of now,” Cowley said. “With contract uncertainty still swirling around Coby White and Josh Giddey, there’s no player on the roster more important than Buzelis.”

The No. 11 pick in 2024 has become a rising star in the Bulls organization. In his rookie season, Buzelis began earning as low as 5.6 minutes per game in October, and by April, he was a starter while averaging 27.7 minutes per game.

He also emerged as a dominant threat in this past Summer League, appearing in two games for the Bulls, averaging 22.5 points and five rebounds.

Matas Buzelis will be a player to watch for Chicago this upcoming season at just 20 years old.
