Kansas City Chiefs defensive lineman Chris Jones has his sights set on climbing higher on the team’s all-time sack leaderboard in 2025. With a strong season, he could pass two players and move into the No. 2 spot behind Derrick Thomas.
On Monday, Jones (80.5 sacks) spoke with Kay Adams on “Up & Adams” and revealed that he wants to pass Tamba Hali, who is currently second on the Chiefs’ all-time sack leaderboard (89.5 sacks), this season.
“I learned a lot from Tamba and Justin Houston with their time here,” Jones told Adams. “I was a young buck, and they showed me the ropes. Well, how the saying goes, student becomes the teacher.”
Chris Jones says this might be his best camp yet, and he’s chasing the Chiefs’ all-time sack leaders 🏆

Jones reflected on what’s brought him close to becoming the Chiefs’ second all-time sack leader, as he looks to first pass Neil Smith, who is third on the list with 85.5 sacks.
“Just goes to the dedication I put into my craft,” Jones added. “I’ve been blessed beyond measures with a lot of great teammates who I’ve been very fortunate to get to the quarterback. It means a lot.”

Jones reaching 10 sacks in a season wouldn’t be surprising, as he’s posted nine or more in five of the last seven seasons with the Chiefs. Moreover, he’s recorded 10.5 sacks or more in two of the previous three seasons, so if he can stay healthy and find that form that allows him to reach double-digit sacks, he can surpass Hali.
After Hali comes Thomas, who tops the Chiefs’ all-time sack list with 126.5. For Jones to have a shot at that mark, he’ll need to stay healthy and keep performing at a high level, especially since the Kansas City star is 31 and entering the latter part of his prime.
If he can’t get close to Thomas’ record, it will be interesting to see if Jones can at least reach 100 sacks as a consolation.
