The Boston Celtics are still open for business.
After making some of the biggest splashes of the offseason in late June by shipping out Jrue Holiday and Kristaps Porzingis, it seemed like the Celtics might have been done making huge decisions. However, Brad Stevens hasn’t rested much since taking over in the front office a few years ago and has consistently made some swings to try and put together a championship unit.
While he already did that with the 2024 roster, the Celtics are in the midst of a transition period until Jayson Tatum returns from injury. So, with a season to effectively reset, the Celtics have done just that.
Although Stevens has already made some big trades, another one could be on the horizon. On Sunday, Jake Fischer reported that the Celtics are still open to dealing Anfernee Simons and are expected to be interested all the way through the trade deadline next season.
Simons was acquired by the Celtics as the main return in the Holiday trade with Portland. While Simons would be a natural fit at the one for the Celtics next season, it still appears that Boston would be comfortable simply moving Payton Pritchard into the starting five.
While Simons is indeed on the trading block, as he reportedly has been since arriving in Boston, the Celtics might be done with any big moves beyond moving the former Blazer. The Celtics won’t be contenders next season, but with a solid return for Simons, they could be in the thick of the playoff race and put themselves in a great position to contend again once Tatum is back on the floor.
