Shane Steichen names starting QB for Colts’ second preseason game

The Colts have decided that, despite Anthony Richardson Sr. missing the majority of his intended playing time in the preseason opener in Baltimore due to a dislocated pinkie finger on his throwing hand, they will have no change to the original plan at the position.

Head coach Shane Steichen shared after practice Sunday evening that Daniel Jones will start and play “a couple series” in the team’s second preseason game against the Packers, per James Boyd of The Athletic. Richardson will finish the rest of the first half.

This was the plan all along. But given the unanticipated end to Richardson’s start, there was some speculation over whether or not Steichen would deviate from the original agenda.

Despite Jones playing 31 total snaps and going 10-for-21 for 144 yards, he’ll still get his turn as the starter.

Steichen also added that the Colts starting offense will play about a quarter, meaning Jones is guaranteed to get some work with the top options while Richardson only maybe gets some run.

Richardson, albeit with lesser talent than Jones will have, will get his shot at redemption and will look to get through the contest unscathed. Otherwise, he may seal his own fate as a failed NFL quarterback.
