The Celtics have had a busy offseason that’s left them with a roster going into the 2025-26 NBA season that looks unrecognizable compared to their title-winning roster from a year ago.
Jrue Holiday and Kristaps Porzingis were the two notable players who were traded away, but several other small transactions have also been made to fulfill needs going into the upcoming season.
Jayson Tatum is expected to miss most of the 2025-26 season, so the Celtics are looking to cut down on luxury tax penalties and sign cost-efficient players.
With decisions still to be made regarding roster positions for certain players, Celtics’ GM Brad Stevens decided to make a roster move on Sunday to set up future moves.
What roster move did Stevens make?
The Celtics decided to waive forward Miles Norris on Sunday (per Celtics).
Norris previously occupied one of the three two-way contracts an NBA team can have in a season, so the decision to waive him will free up a roster spot there.
Norris played just three games with the Celtics in the 2024-25 season, averaging 2.3 points and 3.0 rebounds.
He played four games in last month’s NBA Summer League, averaging 9.3 points, 4.3 rebounds and 1.3 steals.
Noa Dalzell of CelticsBlog.com projects newly drafted player Amari Williams to occupy the Celtics’ third two-way contract, as other rookies Max Shulga and newly acquired player RJ Luis Jr. occupy the other two.
Stevens has been active in the past couple of weeks, recently trading away Georges Niang in a deal to acquire RJ Luis Jr. Stevens signed Chris Boucher, who was a free agent as well.
