The Mets’ announcers have been wanting this one for a while.
Finally, on Saturday night, Pete Alonso delivered with New York on the road in Milwaukee.
He has tied the Mets’ franchise record for career home runs, matching Darryl Strawberry.
Alonso hit No. 252 against the Brewers, a towering blast to deep left-center.

It’s a special moment for the Polar Bear, who should get another one soon when he inevitably passes Strawberry for the outright franchise mark.
They’re currently 10 ahead of third-place David Wright, who hit 242 before injuries ruined what would’ve been a lengthy and successful career.
It’s a special milestone for Alonso, who will be a free agent after the season. It’s not a given that he’s back with the Mets.
So to have a chance to set this homer mark before he leaves is an opportunity Alonso surely won’t pass up.

He’s been one of the most memorable and clutch players for the Mets in a long time. Fans certainly won’t want to see him go, and Alonso probably doesn’t want to leave, either.
He’s only known a Mets uniform in the big leagues, and it’s the jersey in which he’s hit so many epic home runs.
For now, he’ll settle for the tie. Soon, he’ll have the record all for himself. And then he can start figuring out what his future looks like.
