Seattle Mariners are on the best home run hitting, base stealing run in MLB history

The Seattle Mariners are on an unprecedented run.

No team in MLB history has ever had a better stretch of home run hitting and base stealing in a 10-game span. Seriously, ever.

OptaStats provides us with this insight:

In the last 10 games, the Mariners have stolen 20 bases and hit 20 home runs. They have not been caught stealing.

A team has never gone 20 and 20 over 10 games without a single caught stealing in MLB history.

And yes, it’s translating to winning. The Mariners are 8-2 over their last 10 to close within a half-game of the Houston Astros at the top of the AL West standings.

The run has more or less aligned with the trade deadline.

The Mariners went out and got Josh Naylor, who already has double-digit steals in Seattle despite being a lumbering first baseman.

Then they got Eugenio Suarez, the power-hitting third baseman who might finally be busting out of his slump.

Cal Raleigh is definitely breaking out of his own slump, having homered in each of Seattle’s past two games.

It’s pretty remarkable in and of itself that the Mariners have stolen 20 bases without getting caught. Catchers usually throw out 20-30% of base runners, but a smart stealing team can usually just take advantage of vulnerable pitchers to get the job done. That explains how a pair of 235-pound men, Raleigh and Naylor, each have their career-highs in steals.

Add in the power, and the Mariners are putting on quite the show every night.

Seattle fans will certainly enjoy this as long as it keeps up.
