The Golden State Warriors have had an extremely quiet offseason thus far, with Jonathan Kuminga’s contract stalemate complicating the team’s free agency decisions.
It remains unclear whether Kuminga, a restricted free agent, will return to Golden State next season. However, if he does, he’ll be part of a marquee Opening Night matchup against a Western Conference foe.
According to Shams Charania of ESPN, the Warriors are set to kick off the 2025-26 campaign at the Los Angeles Lakers on Oct. 21. Opening Night will also feature a matchup between the Houston Rockets and the defending champion Oklahoma City Thunder.

The Warriors will look to make a deep playoff run behind veteran superstar Stephen Curry, Jimmy Butler III and Draymond Green. However, they’ll first have to navigate a stacked Western Conference that includes the Thunder, Rockets, Minnesota Timberwolves, Denver Nuggets and Los Angeles Clippers.

In a clash of icons, Curry and the Warriors will face LeBron James and the Lakers, who finished with a 50-32 record last season. The Lakers placed third in the West before falling to Minnesota in the opening round of the postseason.
The Warriors finished with a 48-34 record in the 2024-25 campaign and earned the seventh seed after advancing through the Play-In Tournament. They defeated the second-seeded Rockets in a seven-game series before being eliminated by the Timberwolves in the Western Conference semifinals.
However, the Warriors have made no significant roster improvements amid talks with Kuminga, while both the Lakers and Rockets reshuffled their rosters to compete with the Thunder’s talented squad led by Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.
