Tottenham icon Son Heung-Min heaps praise on ‘true legend’ after joining MLS side LAFC

Earlier this week, Son Heung-min bid his goodbyes to Tottenham Hotspur after 10 years at the Premier League club and joined Major League Soccer side Los Angeles.

After his arrival at Tottenham from Bayer Leverkusen in 2015, Son made 454 appearances for Spurs, registering  173 goals and 101 assists. He ended his decade-long career at the North London side after lifting the 2024/25 Europa League trophy, which is the club’s first major one in 17 years.

Son has signed for Los Angeles on a two-year deal reportedly worth $26.5m, which is an MLS record, with the last one being Atlanta United’s signing of Emmanuel Latte Lath for $22m.

Son’s contract at Los Angeles comes in the role of a Designated Player in MLS and also reportedly includes an option to extend until 2029.

Son has recently shared his thoughts on former Los Angeles star Carlos Vela, referring to the Mexican forward as a ‘true legend.’

What did Son Heung-min say about LAFC legend Carlos Vela?

Son, who has always been known for his humility along with his excellence on the pitch, mentioned Vela to be a ‘fantastic player’ and stated that he aims to be remembered as ‘someone who gave everything’ for the MLS club.

“Honestly, I’m not at his level yet. Carlos is incredible – a fantastic player. What he did for this team makes him a true legend. When my time here ends, I want people to remember me as someone who gave everything for this club. That’s why I’m here – to earn a place among those names,” as per GOAL.

Son is expected to make his debut for Los Angeles in their MLS clash against Chicago Fire on August 9 at SeatGeek Stadium in Illinois.
