Lions’ Ennis Rakestraw is getting not-so-nice messages after season-ending injury

Detroit Lions 2024 second-round pick and cornerback Ennis Rakestraw Jr. is off to a rough start to his NFL career.

After being plagued by hamstring issues last season that limited him to nine games and a very small role when he was healthy, Rakestraw is now set to miss all of the 2025 campaign due to a shoulder injury that required surgery.

After news broke that Rakestraw would miss all of this season, he offered a positive message while also apologizing for his latest injury issue, which occurred during a drill at practice earlier this week.

“God has all the answers and I’ll never question him.. But truly sorry,” the Missouri product said on X.

Unfortunately, not everyone has been sympathetic to Rakestraw, who revealed that people are sending him direct messages saying he’s going to get cut.

“And quit dm me saying I’m about to get cut,” Rakestraw said.

Not cool.

The case can definitely be made that Rakestraw’s status with the Lions is now on shaky ground, but the Lions are not going to give up on him that easily.

He will, however, be facing a make-or-break season when he returns in 2026.

Rakestraw was slated to be a top backup on the boundary for the Lions in 2025, and he likely would have been in the mix to hop into the slot cornerback role if needed.

His season-ending injury provides a boost for guys like Avonte Maddox, Rock Ya-Sin and Khalil Dorsey.
