Astros’ Spencer Arrighetti set to make return in Marlins series

The Houston Astros targeted help within the batting lineup during the MLB trade deadline. General manager Dana Brown added players like Carlos Correa, Jesus Sanchez, and Ramon Urias to fill multiple struggling positions within the lineup.

Brown’s goal was to target defensive help while adding a left-handed hitter, rather than trading for pitchers as the team eyes the return of multiple starters from the injured list.

It seems that his plan is starting to come together. According to The Athletic‘s Chandler Rome, starting pitcher Spencer Arrighetti will be making his return sometime during the Astros’ upcoming series against the Miami Marlins.

Rome posted multiple injury updates within the Astros organization to X on Monday, saying that Arrighetti is “scheduled to join the ML (major league) club today… on track to start this week at MIA.”

Arrighetti, 25, has been recovering from a thumb fracture in his throwing hand. An injury he sustained after getting hit by a line drive in practice. He hasn’t made a major league start since April 5.

The two seasons that Arrighetti has been in the big leagues have been shaky, but at such a young age, he has time to adjust. In 31 career starts, he has an 8-14 record, 4.60 ERA, 1.38 WHIP, and 179 strikeouts in 154.2 innings pitched.

Houston is expecting his return, along with other pitchers, including Cristian Javier and Lance McCullers Jr., before the start of the postseason in October.

The Astros will look to rally back after being swept by the Boston Red Sox. They travel to Miami to play the Marlins in a three-game series starting on Monday.
