The most recent reports indicated that Jimmy Vesey was likely bound for Russia and the KHL.
But when the dust settled, Vesey had instead signed in Switzerland.
It’s a two-year deal for Vesey with Geneve-Servette HC of the Swiss National League, the team announced.
It’ll mark the first time heading overseas for Vesey, who most recently suited up for the Colorado Avalanche in the NHL but has been sitting in free agency all summer.
The Harvard product began his NHL career with three strong seasons with the New York Rangers, but he never was able to build on those.
Vesey has made stops with the Sabres, Maple Leafs and Canucks, too.

At 32 years old, Vesey is coming off a season in which he appeared in just 43 games combined for the Rangers and Colorado.
Vesey’s five NHL seasons with 20 or more points all came with the Rangers. He never replicated that success elsewhere.
Colorado hoped to unlock something in him when they acquired him in March via trade from the Rangers, but he only appeared in 10 of the remaining 21 regular season games for the Avalanche.
A report out of Russia had indicated that as many as four KHL teams were inquiring about Vesey, led by SKA St. Petersburg.
Instead, the Swiss club wins out in the negotiations.
A two-year deal for Vesey may indicate that he doesn’t have much belief in his future in the NHL, either, after an offseason spent not receiving an opportunity stateside.
For now, Vesey heads across the Atlantic.
