There’s a good chance the Toronto Maple Leafs will look much different next season, whether that be due to losing Mitch Marner and others or simply not being the same type of team as last year.
There are a few questions surrounding the organization, but until everything unfolds over the next few months, it’s tough to get a perfect feel for what might happen.
There’s a good chance the Maple Leafs will also trade a few players, given there’s still plenty of time left for that.
Over the weekend, Elliotte Friedman recently linked one of their top players to the Pittsburgh Penguins. He noted that Nick Robertson, who many view as a trade candidate, could find himself in Pittsburgh.

“I’m assuming things are going to heat up later in the summer at some point, in all these particular situations,” Friedman said. “I had some people ask me about the possibility of Nick Robertson and Pittsburgh. Obviously, Kyle Dubas knows him. They got the arbitration settled on Saturday at $1.825 million.”
Somewhat similar to the Maple Leafs, it’s tough to get a feel for what the Penguins might be next year.
They look a bit better on paper than they’ve been over the past few years, but it’s also possible that the Maple Leafs will be better than them if everything goes as planned.
Ultimately, unlike some of the other teams around the league, neither is exactly in a position to win a championship unless everything goes right.
Friedman signed a new one-year deal over the weekend, but he’s still viewed as a trade chip as of now.
