Man United eye Barcelona transfer swoop to secure Marcus Rashford’s registration

As the summer transfer window moves into its final weeks, Barcelona find themselves at the centre of a crossroads that could shape their 2025/26 season.

Manchester United have stepped forward with firm interest in the Catalans midfield star Fermin Lopez, offering a figure that is expected to cross the  €70m [$81m] mark, as reported by Diario Sport.

La Blaugrana have not yet accepted anything at this stage, but the deal is being evaluated seriously, not only because of its size but also because of what it might allow them to do immediately.

Barcelona’s financial constraints have been well known for some time. The club still need to make room in their bloated, before finalising player registrations, and Marcus Rashford’s arrival has put extra pressure on that.

Fermin sale could seal Rashford registration

The England international signed a season-long loan deal from United last month, with an option to make the move permanent next summer, but his contract has not yet been registered under La Liga’s rules.

According to BBC Sport, Barcelona’s player registration issue comes from not meeting La Liga’s salary rules.

The club is reportedly over the allowed limit, as last season, they spent more money on transfers and player wages than they earned in total incoming revenue.

Fermin’s sale could solve some of that problem despite the 22-year-old being highly respected by the coaching staff.

However, their midfield is overcrowded, and Barcelona need a big sale to get on board with La Liga’s rule 1:1 transfer target.

If Fermin moves on, the amount raised will allow Barca to register Rashford, finish all of their outstanding contract renewals and possibly complete other deals before the window closes.

However, a potential move will nit be as straight forward as Lopez has shown desire to stay at the Camp Nou and he previously rejected moves to the Saudi Pro League and other Premier League clubs.
