Penguins legend Jaromir Jagr hints at continuing hockey career at age 53

Jaromir Jagr is not like other hockey players.

He’s really not like other humans.

The Pittsburgh Penguins and NHL legend is still playing. If it feels like Jagr must be getting up there in years by now, that’s because he is.

Jagr is 53, turning 54 in February.

And currently, he’s on the ice in the Czech Republic with the Kladno Knights, still technically needing to sign a new contract, but skating with the team to prepare for the season ahead.

Jagr has played for the Knights since his last NHL action in 2017-18 with the Calgary Flames.

This would mark Jagr’s 38th professoinal season.

“Jaromír has been preparing since the spring,” Knights head coach David Cermak told Czech media. “We’ll see when he decides whether to continue. He looks ready.”

Jagr is one of the all-time greats.

He has the second-most points in the history of the NHL, at 1,921. He scored 766 goals and 1,115 assists.

Jagr had 439 of those goals and 640 of those assists in 11 seasons with Pittsburgh.

He also played for the Rangers, Capitals, Panthers, Devils, Flyers, Stars, Flames and Bruins.

Jagr was a first-round pick of the Penguins in 1990, taken at No. 5 overall.

The legendary winger won the Stanley Cup twice, led the NHL in points five times and led the league in assists three times.

He made his NHL debut at 18 for the Penguins, then played until he was 45 with the Flames.

The man just loves to skate with a stick in his hand, and it looks like he can’t find a way to stop yet.

As long as Jagr is on the ice somewhere, the world should keep spinning.
