The New York Yankees have been aggressive so far at the trade deadline. Last week, they acquired both Ryan McMahon and Amed Rosario.
However, there are still areas of the roster that need work for the Bronx Bombers. The trade deadline is near, and they still have yet to add any pitching.
The starting rotation in particular has been hit hard by injuries. Gerrit Cole and Clarke Schmidt are out for the season after undergoing Tommy John surgery.
Kerry Miller of Bleacher Report made some final deadline predictions. He predicted that Sandy Alcantara will go to an American League East team and created a package for the Yankees.
“Both Boston and New York desperately need at least one starting pitcher and could be willing to give up quite a few prospects to get Alcantara,” Miller wrote.

This hypothetical trade has New York sending right-hander Carlos Lagrange and catcher Rafael Flores back to the Miami Marlins. Lagrange is MLB.com’s No. 94 prospect.
Alcantara has not had a good season. He is 6-9 with a 6.36 ERA in 21 starts and has a -1.3 WAR. However, the former Cy Young pitched well in his last start against the St. Louis Cardinals, giving the Marlins five scoreless innings.
The 29-year-old right-hander has two years of club control remaining plus a club option for 2027. Perhaps a change of scenery and the chance to join a contender such as the Yankees could help him rediscover his old form.
The Yankees are four games back in the AL East, but still lead the Wild Card race. Alcantara could help them get back into the race if he finds himself again.
We’ll see if the Yankees decide to make a push for the former Cy Young.
