Why Packers are predicted to finish ‘dead last’ in NFC North

Last season, the Green Bay Packers struggled in the NFC North as they went 1-5 in division play. If Matt LaFleur and his team want to win the division, they must improve their record against their opponents in the NFC North.

Still, even with their poor record in the division, the Packers made the playoffs, joining division winners Detroit Lions and Minnesota Vikings. Nonetheless, the question will be whether Green Bay can have another lousy performance against teams in the NFC North and still make the playoffs.

ESPN Chicago’s David Kaplan joined ESPN Madison and said the Packers aren’t just going to regress; he expects them to finish last in the division.

“All I hear about is how great the Packers are going to be. Let me just remind you that if you don’t, with a fingertip, block the field goal to beat the Bears in Chicago, you go 0-6 in the division,” Kaplan said.

“Not win a game. And then we rolled in and beat your [expletive] in Lambeau at the end of the season. So I think the Packers are headed for a dead last finish in the division.”

Green Bay have a young team, and with that, they can be trying to find consistency, but the Packers are coming off back-to-back playoff appearances, so for them to finish last in the division would mean a lot went wrong during the 2025 NFL season.

Nonetheless, one team does have to finish last, and Kaplan is probably sold on Caleb Williams taking a significant step in Year 2 with the Chicago Bears and under new head coach Ben Johnson.

Moreover, the Vikings also have a question mark at quarterback as J.J. McCarthy will probably be the Week 1 starter, and there’s a possibility that Minnesota can take a step back after making the playoffs. The NFC North should be interesting to follow this season as it will be one of the most competitive.
