Manchester United have been proactive in the summer transfer window with the shrewd signings of Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbuemo to improve their attack.
Following those arrivals, the Red Devils are now in the market for a defensive midfielder and an outright striker to play up front.
The latter is reduced in priority, so Ruben Amorim will focus on midfield targets, as the club look at long-term replacement options for Casemiro.
As per reports from Italian outlet Calciomercato, United have now put forward a £35m [$43m] offer for Sporting CP midfielder Morten Hjulmand.
Amorim is a big admirer of the Danish midfielder, from their time together in Lisbon, and he is looking to convince him on a reunion Old Trafford.
However, United’s pursuit of Hjulmand will not be easy, as Juventus are also interested in the 26-year-old, but they are struggling to meet Sporting’s £43m [$54m] valuation.

Alongside the interest in Hjulmand, United have also been linked with Valencia’s Javi Guerra, with the talented Spanish midfielder reportedly rejecting a contract renewal after hearing of United’s interest.
Why are Man United pushing for Sporting’s Hjulmand?
Hjulmand is one of the most in-demand midfielders in Europe right now due to his all-rounder skillset.
His current contract with Sporting runs until 2028, and they inserted an €80m [£68m/$87m] release clause into it, when he arrived in 2023 from Lecce.
However, now Sporting are ready to negotiate with rivals clubs willing to offer close to £43m [$54m]
United are keen to sign the 26-year-old, and his all-action style could be a perfect fit for Amorim’s system, as proven in Lisbon.
His career graph has been exceptional in the last few years, and he has improved the Sporting side since moving from Italy, and he could be ideal for the Premier League.
Hjulmand featured in 37 matches for Sporting last season across all competitions, scoring two goals and laying on two assists.
He was also named as the Danish Player of the year in 2024 and he’s again a prime contender to win it again in 2025.
