Eagles’ General Manager Howie Roseman never passes up an opportunity to get better. A strange situation involving a league talent could set him up for another steal.
Raiders’ defensive tackle Christian Wilkins was released on Thursday and the team opted to void $35 million of his contract because of how he rehabbed an injury. So while the legal processes are underway to resolve that situation, other teams are planning to target Wilkins.
Philadelphia could be the perfecting landing spot for one reason: Vic Fangio.
The defensive coordinator won a Super Bowl with Philly in his first season in the role. Previously, he was the defensive coordinator for the Miami Dolphins as the coach for Wilkins.
Fangio was a part of Wilkins’ career-best season. The former first-round pick out of Clemson notched a career-high nine sacks in 2023-24 and that’s what earned him a four-year, $110 million dollar contract in Las Vegas.
It didn’t turn out the way either side wanted. Wilkins suffered a season-ending foot injury in week five and now is in a contentious lawsuit with the Raiders.
All the legalities aside, Wilkins is a talented, run-stopping tackle who could fit in on any roster. The Eagles aren’t starved for big boys with players like Jordan Davis and Jalen Carter anchoring the trenches.
However, Howie Roseman has never shied away from making aggressive moves. Just last season he signed edge rusher Bryce Huff, which turned out to be a mistake, to help solidify the pass rush.
Wild to see Christian Wilkins get cut just a year after signing a 5 year, $100M+ deal but now that he’s free keep in mind he had his career best 2023 season under Vic Fangio with 9 sacks.
Sounds like he’s far from ready if he’s getting waived over rehab issues… but with Howie… https://t.co/Jl2yisHZ7y pic.twitter.com/qavYJY1tp1

Wilkins would make the Eagles front four unstoppable and clog up running lanes for any team in the league. The questions marks surrounding his recovery and the lawsuit could stand in the way.
We’ll have to see if Roseman rolls the dice on another talented player.
