England vs. Spain lineups, team news, score prediction: Euro 2025 final sees Lionesses repeat World Cup showdown

It is as if the clocks have suddenly reversed to the August 20, 2023, as Spain and England prepare to face each other as finalists once more — not for the World Cup this time, but to be crowned champions of Europe.

Having lost 1-0 in the final two years ago, the Lionesses have everything to prove in Basel this Sunday, as they have the opportunity to get revenge but also to claim back-to-back Women’s Euros titles.

However, they will need to put on a performance unlike one seen so far at Euro 2025, as the Spanish have delivered a flawless campaign, winning all of their matches and leaving a trail of hugely impressive stats in their wake, scoring more goals and conceding fewer than any other nation.

Still, Spain will have to continue to produce their A game on the pitch as they face the reigning champions — a team competing in their third consecutive major final — and attempt to win this trophy for the first time.

England vs. Spain lineups, team news

England have had an undeniably incredible but nail-biting journey in the competition, kicking it off with a 2-1 defeat to France before storming through their other group matches, culminating in a 6-1 thrashing of Wales.

In the knockouts, they have played it right to the very last second, winning their quarterfinals against Sweden via a penalty shootout and defeating Italy 2-1 in extra time in the semis after Michelle Agyemang scored the equalizer in the 96th minute.

Despite being a mixed campaign, the Lionesses have shown their ferocity and determination again and again, as well as the power of their squad. Nineteen-year-old Agyemang has turned heads as a force that has consistently turned the tide for England, scoring crucial goals in the knockout stage. Chloe Kelly, another of Sarina Wiegman’s super-subs, scored the latest goal in a women’s Euros match with her winner against Italy, and the pair have proved how efficiently England can turn things around on the pitch.

Goalkeeper Hannah Hampton has also consistently impressed throughout the competition as Mary Earps’ successor and is sure to be put to the test on Sunday given Spain’s attacking prowess.

England vs. Spain score prediction

Spain have been a dominant force in the competition, not letting any opponents get in the way of their fight to lift the Euros trophy for long. However, the Lionesses have proved again and again that their performance can never be predicted, and will be fueled by the extra fire of wanting to protect their title and avenge their World Cup final defeat two years ago. But will that be enough against the clinical precision of the Spanish side?

Score prediction: Spain 2-1 England
