Barcelona star makes future decision amid Man City links

Barcelona fans can breathe easy — Jules Kounde is staying put.

The French defender has reportedly decided to commit his future to the Spanish giants, putting an end to recent transfer rumors linking him with Manchester City.

While Pep Guardiola was reportedly eyeing Kounde as a possible successor to Kyle Walker, it looks like the Etihad will have to search elsewhere for a defensive addition.

Kounde, who joined Barca from Sevilla in 2022, has quietly become one of the most reliable names on the team sheet.

Whether in central defense or at right-back, he’s done the job without fuss and with plenty of flair. His numbers speak too — 141 appearances, seven goals, and 18 assists across all competitions.

He helped Barcelona lift the La Liga title last season, starting 29 matches before a hamstring injury cut his campaign short. But his growing role at Camp Nou and a clear sense of loyalty have now led to a long-term commitment.

Jules Kounde set to sign new Barcelona contract

According to multiple reports (via Fabrice Hawkins), Kounde has agreed to a new deal that will extend his stay at Barcelona until 2030.

As journalist Fabrizio Romano puts it: “Jules Koundé will sign his new long-term deal next week.”

It’s a move that shows Barca’s intent to build stability in the backline under new coach Hansi Flick. And it also sends a clear message to other clubs — hands off.

Manchester City, though interested, never apparently made Kounde a top priority. But with his decision now made, they will likely look to other targets like Crystal Palace’s Daniel Munoz or Newcastle’s Tino Livramento.

For now, it’s all smiles at Camp Nou. Kounde is staying, and Barcelona’s backline remains solid.
