PSG ready to sell stalwart this summer to avoid Mbappe-like situation

Paris Saint-Germain have seen a drastic change in guard after they appointed Luis Enrique and won their first-ever Champions League title last season.

They also reached the final of the Club World Cup, but they were by far the second-best team against Chelsea, losing 3-0.

While they will be hoping to start the 2025/26 season by winning the UEFA Super Cup against Spurs, the Parisians have been struck by a critical problem.

PSG’s star goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma’s contract is coming to an end next summer, and the Italian is yet to extend his contract with the reigning UCL winners.

As per L’Equipe, PSG are open to cashing out on the 26-year-old goalkeeper as they don’t want a repeat of the Kylian Mbappe situation.

Mbappe was one of PSG’s most prized possessions, but the Frenchman ran down his contract and moved to Real Madrid in a free transfer in 2024.

Since then, PSG have decided not to allow any of their players to leave for free transfer, and as the situation arises for Donnarumma, the Parisians are clear in their stance.

Which clubs are looking to sign Gianluigi Donnarumma?

Donnarumma is easily one of the most established goalkeepers at the moment, and his performances largely helped PSG win the Champions League crown.

He had an exceptional 2024/25 campaign, and therefore, the news of his availability in the transfer market would surely attract a lot of interest from across the globe.

Chelsea are reportedly chasing the 26-year-old’s signature as they are monitoring his contract renewal saga with PSG.

Similarly, as per Foot Mercato, Turkish champions Galatasaray have made an offer to sign Donnarumma this summer.

Galatasaray have shown great intent in the transfer market as they aim to assemble a team that can compete at the Champions League level next season.

Earlier, teams like Real Madrid and Bayern Munich had also shown interest in the Italian as both clubs are looking for successors to Thibaut Courtois and Manuel Neuer, respectively.

However, they are yet to make a move for the 26-year-old, who could be available for sale in this summer transfer window.

The situation looks extremely bleak for Donnarumma to continue at PSG, as they reportedly have identified Lille’s Lucas Chevalier as a potential replacement.
