Former Real Madrid star sparks debate in wild Rodrygo, Vini Jr & Kylian Mbappe comparison

Real Madrid have been one of the most active clubs in the summer transfer window as they are undergoing wholesale changes under Xabi Alonso.

Los Blancos are in a transition phase as they finished without a silverware last season, which led to Carlo Ancelotti’s dismissal.

While they have signed several players like Trent Alexander-Arnold, Dean Huijsen, Franco Mastantuono and Alvaro Carreras, they also need to sell a few players to balance the books.

One Real Madrid star who has been linked with a move away from Santiago Bernabeu is Rodrygo Goes, who has been linked with Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea.

There have been reports of the Brazilian winger feeling unsettled at Real Madrid since the arrival of Kylian Mbappe.

He has dropped down the pecking order at the Spanish capital behind Mbappe, Vinicius Jr and Jude Bellingham, and hence he may decide to move away from Real Madrid.

The Club World Cup semifinal clash against PSG was another eye-opener for the 24-year-old winger, who was left on the bench as an unused substitute as Real lost 4-0.

Recently, former Real Madrid defender Jesus Vallejo sat down for an interview with AS, and there he made a wild comment on Rodrygo.

When asked about the most technical player at Real Madrid during his time at the club, Vallejo said, “Rodrygo. In small-sided training sessions, he displayed tremendous talent. I was fascinated by him.”

He was further asked if the 24-year-old winger is more technically sound than Vinicius and Mbappe, to which he added, “In that respect, yes. He’s really good and has impressive footballing qualities.”

What did Vallejo say about Rodrygo leaving Real Madrid?

Vallejo left Real Madrid last season and joined Segunda Division outfit Albacete.

The Spanish defender never managed to cement his place in the first team at Real Madrid. He was mostly considered a backup for most of his years.

The 28-year-old centre-back believes Rodrygo warrants another chance to remain at Real Madrid as he added, “I don’t want to interfere where it doesn’t belong, but Rodrygo has already proven his worth and has done so consistently,” the former Wolves defender said. “If he regains his best form, he should be an important player for Madrid for many years to come.”

Rodrygo joined Real Madrid from Santos in 2019 and has played a big role in helping Los Blancos win a couple of Champions League titles.

He finished the 2024/25 campaign with 14 goals and 10 assists from 53 games across all competitions.

The Brazilian played less than 100 minutes in the Club World Cup and just started a solitary game out of six matches.

Real Madrid are reportedly open to selling the Brazilian this summer if they secure a favourable bid.
