Schefter reports that Stewart’s deal is worth $18.97 million over four seasons with a $10.4 million signing bonus. The deal is also fully guaranteed.
“Just in: Shemar Stewart and the Cincinnati Bengals reached agreement on a four-year, fully guaranteed $18.97 million contract that includes a $10.4 million signing bonus, per his agent Zac Hiller of LAA,” Schefter wrote.
Stewart held out of offseason workouts and the first few practices of training camp due to the Bengals trying to implement unprecedented clauses in his deal. The saga has lasted for months and has caused uncertainty, but now, Stewart is signed and should be a major contributor on Cincinnati’s defense this year.
According to NFL insider Jordan Schultz, the Bengals ended up getting their way and including their desired language in Stewart’s contract. In exchange, the No.17 overall pick will get a lucrative signing bonus and will get those bonuses sooner.
“Sources: The Bengals ended up getting the language they wanted in the Shemar Stewart contract. In exchange, Stewart will be getting more money from his signing bonus on an earlier date,” Schultz wrote.
Now, the Bengals should turn their attention towards signing superstar edge rusher Trey Hendrickson to a long-term extension.
