Manchester City were eliminated from the Club World Cup after suffering a crushing defeat against Saudi club Al-Hilal in the Round of 16.
The loss not only crushed Man City’s only hope of lifting a trophy in the 2024/25 season but also added to Pep Guardiola’s list of worries as Rodri picked up a knock during the match.
Rodri was included in Man City’s squad for the competition following his recovery from a cruciate ligament tear that kept him off the pitch for the better part of the last campaign.
With a new season approaching, the last thing Guardiola would be hoping for is a setback for their Ballon d’Or winner, and it appears there might be some good news on that front.
Man City’s break in between seasons was cut short as they made the trip to the United States for the Club World Cup, and now Guardiola & Co. will return to pre-season training on Monday, July 28, after having four weeks off since the end of the competition.
They will conduct their first couple of weeks of preseason training at the City Football Academy, during which Guardiola and his coaching staff will help their players return to fitness.

Rodri is expected to be in training with Man City on Monday and will undergo an assessment to see if the 29-year-old would be able to help the squad in the 2025/26 season, according to Manchester Evening News.
What’s next for Manchester City and Rodri?
While Rodri’s fate for the upcoming campaign is expected to come to light next week, Man City are set to play their only friendly game this preseason against Serie B side Palermo on August 10.
Several reports have also suggested that Real Madrid are keen on acquiring Rodri’s signature in the ongoing summer transfer window.
Man City will have three weeks of training before they kick off the upcoming season with their opening Premier League clash against Wolves at Molineux Stadium on August 16.
