The Washington Nationals are expected to be sellers at the MLB trade deadline.
That’s how it goes when a season has gone down the drain.
But the Nats won’t be doing anything crazy.
Interim GM Mike DeBartolo told reporters Sunday that the young core is staying put.
That would include the likes of outfielders James Wood and Dylan Crews, shortstop CJ Abrams and lefty ace MacKenzie Gore.
“I’m looking to keep the young, core group of our best players together,” DeBartolo said. “Certainly my job, if someone calls, you always listen to what they have to say. But trading away our really high-quality young players is not something I’m looking to do right now.”

Gore was the only one of the aforementioned quartet that has surfaced in rumors at all.
“I’d put him in that group in terms of our young, really talented players,” DeBartolo said. “That’s not a focus of mine to move him.”
The Nats will likely look to move star reliever Kyle Finnegan, and potentially hitters Nathaniel Lowe, Josh Bell, Paul DeJong and Amed Rosario. Michael Soroka, a potential swingman pitcher for a contender, could go, too.
But Wood and company are sticking around for the long haul.
