3 players set to make debuts in Newcastle United’s 2025/26 season

Newcastle United have made two new signings in the ongoing summer transfer window, while rumours claim that there are more to come ahead of the 2025/26 season.

Newcastle ended their 56-year trophy drought by claiming the EFL Cup in the last campaign, where the Magpies also managed a fifth-place finish in the Premier League.

To increase their chances of winning silverware in the upcoming season, Newcastle have acquired the signatures of Anthony Elanga and Antonito Cordero.

Newcastle are scheduled to play five more pre-season friendly matches before some of their players get a chance to make their competitive debuts for the Magpies with their opening Premier League game against Aston Villa on August 16 at Villa Park.

Anthony Elanga

Earlier this month, Elanga arrived at Newcastle from Nottingham Forest on a deal reportedly worth £55 million ($74m).

The 23-year-old winger started his senior career with his boyhood club Manchester United in 2023, followed by joining Nottingham Forest in 2023.

During his two-season tenure at Nottingham, Elanga made 82 appearances while recording 11 goals and 21 assists. After making the move to St James’ Park, the Swedish star mentioned that he is ready to fight for the Magpies and said,

“I’m ready to put on this black and white top to really fight for this team and give everything for the passionate fanbase that lives and breathes football. I had an amazing two years at Nottingham Forest, they really helped me to become the player I am today, but I’m really happy to be here now,” as per BBC Sport.

“The club won a trophy last season and are building something unique, something special that I really want to be part of. I really want to buy into the culture, into the DNA of this club. I’m really happy to be here and I can’t wait to get started.”

Antonito Cordero

Newcastle signed Cordero from Segunda Division club Malaga on a free transfer. The 18-year-old’s contract with the Magpies is valid until the summer of 2030.

Cordero arrives at Newcastle as one of the most promising young talents, after making 60 appearances for Malaga during which he netted seven goals and provided nine assists.

Cordero described his move to Newcastle as an honour and said,

“It’s truly an honour to be here, truly a pleasure. I am a person who likes to aspire high. Why not come to one of the best places in the world to do it. It’s a big step, and that’s one of the reasons I’m here. I’m happy to do it and have a great desire to get going already,” as per BBC Sport.

While chances exist that he will be initially loaned out, Newcastle fans will be hoping to see Cordero make his debut in the 2025/26 season.

Harrison Ashby

After starting his senior career with his boyhood club West Ham United, Harrison Ashby joined Newcastle in January 2023. The right-back was loaned to EFL Championship club Swansea City for a season in August of that year.

Ashby was then on another one-season loan to Queens Park Rangers in the last campaign. Now, as he has returned to St James’ Park ahead of the 2025/26 campaign, the 23-year-old is expected to finally get his first-team debut for Newcastle.

Newcastle have been linked to make a move for several names this summer, including James Trafford, Randal Kolo Muani, Yoane Wissa, Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Giorgio Scalvini, Nicolo Savona, and Cesar Tarrega.

If the Magpies are able to finalize the deals, these potential signings could also don the Newcastle shirt for the first time in the upcoming 2025/26 season.
