The Philadelphia 76ers have been navigating a difficult offseason, but their next move could be simple.
Over the past several weeks, NBA teams have been changing their rosters to try and compete for a championship next season. After a failed 2024-25 campaign, the 76ers are in the same situation as many other teams around the league.
One of the 76ers’ biggest issues last season was their inability to stay healthy. With Joel Embiid and Paul George’s injury concerns popping up at points throughout the season, there was almost no chance for Philadelphia to chase its championship goals.
Another issue for the 76ers was their lack of solid bench contributors. When George and Embiid missed large chunks of time, the 76ers seemingly had no answers for their replacements.
While it’s easier said than done to replace players of that caliber, it still gave the 76ers a look at which players might be able to contribute in a playoff setting when everyone is healthy. One of the players who simply didn’t pass that test was veteran big man Andre Drummond.
As suggested by The Sixer Sense’s Nicolas Kyle Pring, Philadelphia might have a chance to offload Drummond easily this offseason. Former 76er Al Horford has seemingly been on his way to the Golden State Warriors for some time now, but considering the holdup, he could still be interested in retiring this offseason.
If Horford does retire or simply can’t come to an agreement with the Warriors, they could be a perfect team to send Drummond to, particularly after the team already lost Kevon Looney in free agency. While Horford’s one season in Philadelphia is only remembered in infamy, he could unintentionally do the 76ers a solid this offseason.
