Scottie Scheffler didn’t waste time soaking in the spotlight after sealing his latest major. Once his final putt dropped at Royal Portrush, his focus immediately shifted, not to the media, not to his trophy, but to his family waiting behind the ropes.
Scheffler wins the Open, shares emotional moment with wife and son
Scheffler posted a winning score of 17-under to take The Open by four shots over Harris English. But the moment everyone will remember came just after he hugged his caddie, Ted Scott. Scheffler ran to the gallery, where his wife Meredith was holding their young son, Bennett. The three shared a long embrace while fans roared in the background.
After lifting the Claret Jug, Scheffler made sure to speak from the heart.
“To my wife and my son, thank you. I couldn’t do this without you. I just love you so much,” he said. “I’m excited to get home and celebrate with the people who make this all possible.”
He also acknowledged his parents, coaching team, and support staff.

“Teddy, Blake, Phil, everyone, I really have the best team around me,” he said. “They don’t make it about themselves. They just help me get better and stay grounded.”
One of the most touching scenes came a few minutes later, as little Bennett wandered toward his dad on wobbly legs. Scheffler gently placed the trophy on the green and picked up his son in front of the crowd. It was pure joy, no speeches needed.
With three legs of the career grand slam now complete, all eyes turn to the 2026 U.S. Open.
