Brian Callahan enters Year 2 with transformative approach for Titans

The Tennessee Titans are entering a new chapter. After finishing his first season at the helm with a 3-14 record, Brian Callahan is reportedly recalibrating his approach.

Callahan’s mindset throughout last season’s struggles has been steadfast. In December, he noted that he tries not to dwell on factors outside his control. Instead, his focus has remained on laying a strong foundation for sustained future success.

On Saturday, Titans reporter Jim Wyatt discussed Callahan’s new approach for the upcoming season.

“Coach Callahan has changed a lot with his approach, and I think he learned a bunch from his first NFL season,” Wyatt wrote. “This offseason, he put a big emphasis on building a more competitive and closer team. I think the vibes heading into the year are really good. And, I think he’ll be a lot more prepared heading into his second NFL season.”

A fundamental piece in this new chapter is the arrival of Cam Ward, the No. 1 pick in the 2025 NFL draft. Ward brings a dynamic skill set and a leadership presence that aligns with Callahan’s vision.

Ward is already drawing praise from those around him. On Thursday, defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons shared a story that highlighted the rookie quarterback’s fierce competitiveness.

“It was after a play, we stopped him, and I think I ended up getting a sack,” Simmons said. “All of the sudden, we’re talking smack and Cally (head coach Brian Callahan) is giving him the dang play. … It didn’t faze him. He’s still talking smack while Cally’s getting the play to him. He’s giving the play to the offense, still talking smack to me. … He’s legit.”

As the 2025 season approaches, the Titans are betting that Callahan’s new approach and Ward’s caliber can spark wins and lasting culture change.
