Tyrrell Hatton majors timeline: History of finishes as English golfer contends at 2025 British Open

Tyrrell Hatton is an English golfer who was formerly a member of the PGA Tour and the Challenge Tour, but now competes on the European Tour and with LIV Golf. 

Hatton was born in High Wycombe, England, in 1991 and turned professional in 2011, at the age of 20. Similar to others, Hatton joining LIV Golf was controversial. He joined the organization in January 2024 and won his first event in June of that year. It was his first tournament win in over three years. Hatton won the 2024 LIV Golf Nashville with a whopping 19-under, six strokes ahead of the runner-up Sam Horsfield.

Has Tyrrell Hatton won a major?

No, at least not yet. As of the 2025 British Open, Hatton is still searching for his first major win. His best finish heading into July 2025 was at the 2025 U.S. Open when he finished in a tie for fourth place. Hatton has played in every major golf tournament since 2017, although he had an extensive history of missing the cut early in his career.

Here is how Hatton has done at the British Open. 

Hatton has the most experience playing at the British Open. Unfortunately, that hasn’t always translated to success. He has missed the cut in seven of his 13 appearances at the major. His best finish heading into the 2025 British Open came at the 2019 event, where he finished in a tie for sixth. This is notable because the same course that hosted the major in 2019 is hosting it again in 2025 — Royal Portrush.

Tyrrell Hatton U.S. Open history

Here is how Hatton has done at the U.S. Open.

Tyrell Hatton debuted at the event in 2017 but missed the cut. When he returned in 2018, he finished tied for 6th. It remains one of Hatton’s best major finishes of his career. He didn’t finish in the top 10 at the tournament again until 2025 when he finished in a tie for fourth.

Here is how Hatton has fared at the Masters. 

If you thought the rotating sites of the golf majors were a weakness of Hatton, the Masters proves that isn’t the case. Similar to his other debuts at golf majors, he missed the cut his first time playing in the tournament in 2017. Hatton finally cracked the top 10 in Augusta in 2024, finishing tied for ninth. He wasn’t able to maintain that success in 2025 and dropped into a tie for 14th.

Tyrrell Hatton PGA Championship history 

Here is Hatton’s history from the PGA Championship.

Hatton had his best debut at a major at the 2015 PGA Championship. It was the only major in which he didn’t miss the cut the first time he played in it, finishing tied for 25th in 2015. Over the next three years, Hatton tied for 10th twice and missed the cut once. His 2018 finish tied for 10th was his best finish at the PGA Championship in the past eight years.
