Bucks GM Jon Horst reveals why Bobby Portis re-signed with Milwaukee

The Milwaukee Bucks’ eventful offseason has recently mellowed out, with general manager Jon Horst now reflecting on the club’s effort to gear up for a deep playoff run led by Giannis Antetokounmpo.

The Bucks made a huge splash by signing Myles Turner to a four-year deal and waiving Damian Lillard, stretching the remaining $113 million on his contract. Milwaukee also re-signed several key rotation players from last season, including Bobby Portis, who has been a vital piece for the club since its 2021 championship run

While the former Sixth Man of the Year finalist drew interest from several contending teams, he ultimately chose to return to Milwaukee, where he has already spent half his career. Horst reflected on Portis’ decision to return, citing his desire to win alongside Antetokounmpo, according to Eric Nehm of The Athletic.

“Bobby wasn’t short on options, but he wanted to be here,” Horst said. “He wants to win, and he wants to win with this group of guys. He loves playing with Giannis. He loves the things that we’ve done in free agency.”

Portis is set to remain with the Bucks through at least the 2026-27 season, and he holds a player option for 2027-28.

The 30-year-old forward stays in Milwaukee on a lucrative deal, earning $43.6 million over the next three years. He’ll aim to prove his value and provide a spark off the bench as the Bucks chase another championship.

Over five seasons with the Bucks, the fan favorite has averaged 13.6 points, 8.3 rebounds and 1.4 assists across 25.0 minutes per game.
